Your Comprehensive Moving Checklist

Moving is a complicated process and there’s a ton that can go wrong if you aren’t careful. Not only do you have to handle the process of actually relocating all your belongings, you also need to manage your budget, set-up your new bills and utilities and make sure everyone is informed that you’re moving.

With so much to do it’s easy for some tasks to slip under the radar which leads to trouble. At Falcon Relocation we make it our duty to help ensure you’re covered and we’ll do all we can to make your move easier. We can’t do everything though, which is why we’ve provided this handy moving checklist that will ensure you don’t forget any important tasks

1. Change Your Bills

You need to change your address on all bills and utilities and you might choose this opportunity to change energy/internet/gas providers to try and get better deals.

2. Change Your Banking Address

Likewise, make sure you change your address with your banks. These days most banks let you do this online.

More Addresses:

You also need to change your address at the gym or with any clubs you belong to.

Then, there are your magazine subscriptions, driving license, car insurance policy (which might need to change if your parking conditions have changed) and more. If you use address labels then you’ll want to order new ones and you should inform the postal service of your move too. Other possible people to inform include: life insurance, charities you support, frequent flyer programs and newspaper/milk deliveries.

Lastly, don’t forget to tell your employers you’ve moved as well! If you’re self-employed then you’ll also need to inform your clients.

3. Friends and Family

Don’t forget that you need to inform friends and family of your move as well.

4. Check Inventory

After your moving company has helped you move all your belongings, you should make sure that everything is present and correct. If anything is missing, you can then query it with the company that helped you relocate.

5. Local Services

You also need to make sure that you set up with a new doctor and transfer your medical records (if needed). Finding a new dentist will also be on your radar.

6. Register to Vote

If you want to vote then you’ll need to make sure you’re on the electoral register.

7. Create a Box of Essentials

A box of essential items can help you to move in before you have emptied everything out. Things like wash products, tea bags/coffee, a small bottle of milk and any medication should be accessible as soon as you arrive in your new place.

8. Clean Your New Home

Before you move everything into your new home is the perfect opportunity to give it a thorough cleaning.

9. Introduce Yourself to the Neighbors

If you’re moving somewhere new then it’s polite to introduce yourself to the neighbors and to say hi to everyone.

10. Familiarize Yourself With Your Area

It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with your new area and all the local amenities. Make sure you know where the local shops, restaurants and services are located and you plan your route into work.
